Historic Roots

While records point to an 1853 survey for a town called Xenia in what became Clay County, it's sometimes linked to the area that became Atlanta. Clay & Wayne. Began as early hunting grounds, with the town formally established around 1830 when Dr. Davenport opened the first post office, named from the Greek word for "hospitality". Its growth was spurred by the 1854 railroad, connecting it to the wider region.
